Haynes Ford

Heavy Duty Polyurethane Resin Screed

Project Description

Case Study: Vehicle Workshop Floor Refurbishment – Haynes Ford, Maidstone, Kent

Project Overview

Client: Haynes Ford, Maidstone, Kent
Scope: Full refurbishment of workshop floor with high-performance epoxy and polyurethane resin systems
Area: Vehicle workshop including work bays, ramps, and central roadway
Objective: Deliver a durable, chemical- and slip-resistant floor suitable for heavy vehicular traffic, ensuring safety, durability, and ease of maintenance

Challenges

  • Existing painted floor was heavily worn and the substrate contaminated with oil.

  • Different areas of the workshop required tailored slip resistance: work bays needed chemical resistance, central roadway required higher slip resistance.

  • Expansion joints required careful protection and reinstatement to maintain structural integrity.

  • Floor had to meet operational, safety, and maintenance requirements for a busy vehicle workshop.

Our Solution

1. Removal & Surface Preparation

  • Removed all old floor coatings using quad-head diamond floor grinders to ensure a clean, sound substrate.

  • Thoroughly cleaned the substrate to remove oil contamination and debris.

2. Primer Application

  • Applied two coats of epoxy oil-capping primer to seal the substrate and ensure long-term adhesion of the resin systems.

3. Resin Flooring Installation

  • Vehicle Work Bays & Ramps:

    • Applied a 4mm self-smoothing epoxy screed with chemical- and slip-resistant light grey seal coat.

  • Central Roadway:

    • Installed 3mm polyurethane screed with 2–3mm quartz aggregate broadcast to create a highly slip-resistant surface.

    • Bonded aggregates sealed with two coats of dark grey epoxy for durability and protection.

4. Joint Treatment & Safety Markings

  • Expansion joints were recut through the cured resin layers and filled with flexible polysulphide joint filler.

  • Yellow line markings applied along both sides of the central roadway to enhance safety and traffic guidance.
