9 mm Polyurethane Screed with 100 mm Radius Coving

Project Description

The Isle of Wight Cheese Factory is a local artisan producer known for its high-quality dairy products. As production increased, the factory required an expansion to accommodate new equipment and meet higher output demands. The client needed a durable, hard-wearing industrial flooring system that could withstand heavy machinery, constant foot traffic, and exposure to moisture during regular washdowns.

Preparation Process

The existing floor was insufficient and could lead to water pooling during washdowns. To resolve this, we installed a resin mortar build-up around the perimeter, creating improved gradients toward the drains and ensuring proper water runoff. Next, we began installing a 9 mm polyurethane screed. The installation was completed over three days, ensuring consistent thickness and finish throughout the production zone.

Coving

Once the screed had fully cured, radius coving was installed using a 2 mm aluminium trim, 100 mm high from the floor, to create a seamless transition between the floor and wall. A polyurethane seal coat was applied to the entire floor and cove area to enhance chemical resistance, improve hygiene, and facilitate easier maintenance. Expansion joints were also introduced at key locations to accommodate structural movement and prevent future cracking.

Results

The final result delivered a high-performance, seamless polyurethane floor with excellent resistance to mechanical wear, moisture, and chemical exposure.
