Seamless Resin Flooring for Contemporary Restaurant Spaces

Project Overview

GSS Flooring was commissioned to install a seamless, durable, and slip-resistant resin flooring solution for Busaba Earthai, a renowned Thai restaurant chain, at their new locations in Westfield Stratford and King’s Road, Chelsea. The objective was to provide a flooring system that complemented the modern aesthetic of the restaurants while meeting the practical demands of high-footfall dining environments.​

Project Scope & Challenges

Restaurant environments require flooring that balances visual appeal with functionality:​

• Aesthetic consistency, ensuring a smooth, single-colour finish that aligns with the restaurant’s design.​

   

• Durability, to withstand heavy foot traffic and daily wear.​

   

• Slip resistance, enhancing safety for both staff and patrons.​

   

• Adaptability, addressing varying subfloor heights and conditions.​

   

A notable challenge was the significant variation in the existing floor levels, ranging from 40mm to 400mm, necessitating a customized subfloor solution to achieve a level surface.​

Our Solution

GSS Flooring implemented a tailored flooring system to meet these requirements:​

• Installation of a new cement-based subfloor, varying in thickness to correct the uneven existing floor levels.​

   

• Application of a two-component epoxy resin primer, ensuring optimal adhesion of subsequent layers.​

   

• Installation of a 3mm, three-component self-smoothing epoxy resin screed, providing a seamless and durable surface.​

   

• Application of a UV-stable polyurethane seal coat, incorporating a fine polymer bead to enhance abrasion resistance and slip resistance.​

   

• In the kitchen areas, an enhanced slip-resistant finish was applied, along with a 100mm radial cove around the perimeter to facilitate cleaning and hygiene.​

   

The entire installation covered an area of 380m² and was completed within a 6-day time frame, ensuring minimal disruption to the restaurant’s opening schedule.​
