Seamless White Epoxy Resin Flooring for Film Set Production

Project Overview

GSS Flooring was commissioned by Elstree Studios in London to install a pristine, seamless white resin floor for a film set used in the production of Devil’s Playground, starring Danny Dyer. The set required a clean, clinical aesthetic to replicate hospital and laboratory environments, necessitating a flooring solution that was both visually striking and durable.​

Project Scope & Challenges

The project involved transforming a temporary timber structure within Studio 5 into a convincing medical set. Key requirements included:​

• A pure white, seamless finish to meet the visual demands of the film’s setting.​
• Compatibility with a timber substrate, ensuring proper adhesion and longevity.​
• Quick installation, as filming schedules required minimal downtime.​
• Durability, to withstand the movement of props, equipment, and crew during production.​

Our Solution

GSS Flooring implemented a tailored flooring system to meet these challenges:​

• Applied a two-component epoxy primer to the timber base, ensuring strong adhesion.​
• Filled all screw heads and joints with a fast-curing resin, creating a smooth, continuous surface.​
• Coated the interior walls with a white, water-based, vertical-grade epoxy, enhancing the set’s clinical appearance.​
• Installed a 3mm self-smoothing white epoxy resin floor, delivering a seamless, high-gloss finish ideal for filming.​

The entire 180m² installation was completed within a 2-day timeframe, aligning with the studio’s tight production schedule.​
