Project Overview
Client: Oasis Sholing Academy, Southampton
Scope: Full replacement of existing vinyl and tiled floors with a decorative, slip-resistant resin flooring system
Area: Male and female changing rooms and shower facilities
Objective: Provide a hard-wearing, hygienic, and visually appealing floor suitable for wet environments, while enhancing safety and durability
Challenges
Existing vinyl and tiled floors needed complete removal to prepare the substrate for resin installation
Shower areas required enhanced slip resistance to prevent accidents in wet conditions
Flooring needed to be both functional for high foot traffic and decorative to improve the overall environment
UV stability and long-term durability were essential for maintaining appearance and performance
Our Solution
Removal & Surface Preparation
Removed old vinyl and tiled flooring
Prepared substrate extensively to ensure optimum adhesion and performance
Applied a resin-based Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) primer as a protective base
Base Screed & Decorative Finish
Installed a 3mm self-smoothing epoxy resin screed for a seamless, level foundation
Changing rooms: Broadcast multicolour decorative flakes onto an epoxy coating for a hard-wearing, visually appealing surface
Shower areas: Replaced flakes with decorative quartz aggregates to increase slip resistance
Sealing & Protection
Applied two coats of UV-stable, clear polyurethane sealant with a durable, matt finish
Achieved a robust, hygienic surface suitable for wet areas and high foot traffic
