Project Description
GSS Flooring was commissioned by HCE to refurbish the catering facilities at the prestigious One Great George Street, a landmark building in central London. The objective was to upgrade the flooring system to ensure long-term durability, hygiene, and safety in a high-traffic catering environment.
The project involved installing a robust 6mm Polyurethane screed flooring system, complemented by new 100mm-radius coving throughout the area.
Preparation Process
Our team used state-of-the-art diamond grinding equipment to prepare the substrate, ensuring optimal adhesion for the new flooring system. Thresholds and drain perimeters were carefully lowered using precision diamond concrete saws and specialist breaking tools to allow the 6mm screed to finish flush.
Substrate Modifications
Surrounding concrete edges were removed where necessary, and a three-part epoxy mortar was applied and finished at exactly 6mm below the surface level at thresholds and around drains. This ensured a smooth and seamless transition throughout the facility.
Screed Installation
Over two days, 180 m² of 6mm Polyurethane screed was laid using trowel techniques to achieve a uniform, durable surface suited to heavy-duty catering environments.
Finishing Touches
Once the screed was fully cured, all expansion joints were carefully reinstated using a flexible polysulfide joint compound to accommodate movement and maintain integrity over time. To enhance the floor’s longevity and ease of maintenance, a coloured roller-applied seal coat was applied as the final protective layer.
The completed floor system delivered a seamless, hygienic, and highly durable solution tailored to the needs of a busy commercial kitchen. The project was completed on time and to specification, ensuring minimal downtime for the client and a refreshed, future-proofed facility.
