Project Overview
HCE commissioned GSS Flooring to refurbish their catering facilities at the prestigious One Great George Street, a landmark building in central London. The objective was to upgrade the flooring system to ensure long-term durability, hygiene, and safety in a high-traffic catering environment.
Preparation Process
We used state-of-the-art diamond grinding equipment to prepare the substrate, ensuring optimal adhesion for the new flooring system. Thresholds and drain perimeters were carefully lowered with precision diamond concrete saws and specialist breaking tools to ensure the 6 mm screed finished flush.
Substrate Modifications
Surrounding concrete edges were removed where necessary, and a three-part epoxy mortar was applied and finished at a depth of exactly 6 mm below the surface level at thresholds and around drains. This ensured a smooth and seamless transition throughout the facility.
Screed Installation
Over the course of two days, 180 m² of 6 mm Polyurethane screed was laid using trowel application techniques to achieve a uniform, durable surface suitable for heavy-duty catering environments.
Finishing Touches
Once the screed was fully cured, all expansion joints were carefully reinstated using a flexible polysulfide joint compound to accommodate movement and maintain integrity over time. To enhance the longevity and ease of maintenance of the floor, a coloured roller-applied seal coat was added as the final protective layer.
The completed floor system delivered a seamless, hygienic, and highly durable solution tailored to the needs of a busy commercial kitchen.
