GSS Flooring Transforms Haynes Ford’s Busy Maidstone Workshops
We were delighted to work with Haynes Ford again, this time tackling a major flooring upgrade at their incredibly busy commercial workshops in Maidstone! Having successfully installed a heavy-duty resin screed in their agricultural workshops in Canterbury, they knew GSS Flooring was the right choice for this demanding project.
Tackling a Massive, Contaminated Space
This wasn’t a small job – we were dealing with over 1000m² of old, oil-contaminated concrete. And the biggest challenge? This workshop operates double shifts, day and night! The only way to get this done was to split the area in half and work through a very tight schedule over the Christmas and New Year period. Talk about a holiday hustle!
Expert Prep for a Durable Finish
For each phase, our team thoroughly prepared the surface by shot-blasting and mechanically grinding to remove as much of that stubborn oil contamination as possible. This crucial step ensures a strong bond for the new floor. Next, we treated the concrete with two applications of an oil and moisture tolerant epoxy primer, creating the perfect foundation for what was to come.
High-Performance Polyurethane Screed and Safety Markings
Then came the star of the show: a 9mm, three-part, polyurethane screed installed across the entire area. This robust industrial flooring system is built to withstand the rigors of a busy commercial workshop. To finish it off, we applied a highly chemical-resistant, UV-stable resin seal coat in grey, with sections of blue to clearly denote safe walkways. We also added crisp white line markings using a thixotropic epoxy resin on either side of the walkways, and bright yellow hatching in front of the main entrances to enhance safety and organization.
Finally, we meticulously re-cut all the expansion joints through the cured resin and filled them with a flexible polysulphide resin, ensuring the floor remains durable and crack-free for years to come.
